SEND Pathfinder - Update
The Department for Education and Department of Health have recently written to all Pathfinder Pilot Areas on Pathfinder Progress, Next Steps and Priorities 2013-14.
The highlights were as follows;
-
Nationally there are now over 1,300 completed Education, Health and Care plans (EHC plans) in place.
-
It is vital during the period from the start of September 2013 to the end of March 2014 that Pathfinder's register a minimum of 35 completed EHC plans on the SQW evaluation tool, in order to ensure a robust final evaluation.
-
There has been much debate about the needs of children with long-term medical conditions, such as diabetes and epilepsy. In response to these concerns, the Government has proposed an amendment to the Bill requiring schools to take reasonable action to support children with medical conditions. The Department will work with health organisations, parents and the school workforce on a piece of statutory guidance to support this requirement and this will be the subject of a further public consultation in the New Year.
-
Plans for the pathfinder programme beyond the current financial year are currently being worked up and the Department are aiming to share further information on this before the Christmas break
Consultation on Draft 0-25 Special Educational Needs (SEN) Code of Practice, Draft Regulations and Transitional Arrangements
The Children and Families Bill, currently in Parliament, will bring radical changes to the special educational needs (SEN) framework, subject to Royal Assent. Te DfE is consulting on a draft new 0-25 SEN Code of Practice. The Code is statutory guidance. the DfE is also consulting on associated draft Regulations. The Bill proposes replacing SEN statements (for schools) and Learning Difficulty Assessments (for young people in further education and training) with single 0-25 Education, Health and Care Plans. The DfE is consulting on the arrangements for the transfer to the new plans.
Click here to view the Consultation document, draft SEN Code of Practice and other related documents including the Response Form.
Consultation closes on 9th December 2013.
