Provence! The name conjures up visions of lavender, sunflowers, olive trees, and wine – and plenty of wine – white, red and, in particular, rosé!

This historic region sits along the Mediterranean coast of France, bordered by the Rhône River to the west and the Côte d'Azur on the east. Physically, it's only about 150 miles long and 100 miles north to south but its viticultural impact is profound. Wine has been made here for over 2600 years, making Provence the oldest wine-producing region of France. Not only is it the only place in the world to make a virtue of and focus on rosé , it is also where the Mourvedre grape achieves its greatest potential.

Throughout Provence, wild, resinous shrubs like rosemary, juniper, thyme and lavender grow almost everywhere. It is said that this scrub, collectively called "Garrigue" (on limestone/clay soils) or 'Maquis" (when growing on crystalline schist), influences the very character of the wines.

This evening will be a vinous journey through the unique terroir of Provence ranging from the pale, delicate yet structured roses to the warm, powerful, spicy & herbal (ageworthy) reds that pair so brilliantly with the varied sunshine flavours of the local cuisine.

The tasting will be hosted by Doug Wregg - one of our long-standing favourite speakers. Those that have attended one of his tasting before will guarantee that the evening promises to be informative, relaxed and certainly fun.
Throughout the evening we will serve 2 rose, 1 white, 4 reds, a sweet wine
and an eaux de vie alongside our a gutsy Provence meets North Africa menu.
